I have searched this forum and have found no plausible explanation. Why does BRP require an addtional 25kg in lead acid on board? I crank the motor for a split second and it runs and none of the cables or the battery ever even get warm. I have been using a 31 Ah PWW battery since right after the initial shakedown cruise to no decernable disadvantage. The motor starts within 1 revolution and in <1 second every time.Ĭould someone please explain why I am required to use a starting battery suitable for a big CAT diesel on this motor? As soon as the outboard runs it does not require the battery any further, in fact you could disconnect it. My battery is installed with the OEM cable harness within 2 m of the motor and the connectors are tightly screwed down with nuts (not wingnuts!) on the terminals. Better yet, I can cruise all day at 17 kn and 4.5 L/hr. WOT is 5600 with a 10.5x12 prop at half load and 25.5 kn GPS. My motor runs perfectly and has now over 60 hrs on it. My entire setup is centered on minmum weight and maximum efficiency. I have a 2010 25DEL on a home built wood-epoxy 5.6 m, center console skiff which displaces fully rigged with 22 l fuel 250 kg. I am just trying to understand the real issues and reasonings for the high cranking amp battery requirements for 25 hp E-TEC engines.
